KP Chief Minister Grieves Over PIMS Infant Deaths, Orders Safety Audit
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Chief Minister Muhammad Sohail Afridi expressed deep sorrow and grief over the tragic deaths of newborn babies at Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) Hospital in Islamabad. In a statement, he termed the loss as "heart-wrenching and irreparable," extending his condolences to the bereaved families.
He called for a thorough investigation, stating that those responsible would be held accountable. The Chief Minister acknowledged the immense pain of the parents and prayed for their patience during this difficult time.
As a response, he directed the health department to:
- Conduct a comprehensive review of safety arrangements in all hospitals across the province.
- Reassess Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and emergency response mechanisms.
- Identify weaknesses in safety protocols and address them immediately.
- Impart regular training to hospital staff for effective handling of emergencies.
- Complete fire safety inspections of public sector hospitals and submit a report to the Chief Minister’s Secretariat.
He emphasized that "no negligence or laxity in hospital safety arrangements will be tolerated."
