KP Govt Modernizing Agriculture Sector On Modern Lines
PESHAWAR, (APP – UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 10th Sep, 2026) Advisor to the Chief Minister for Agriculture, Mian Muhammad Umar KakaKhel, said on Thursday that practical steps were under way to modernize the agriculture sector of the province on modern lines and create better production opportunities for farmers.
Key Initiatives:
1. Agricultural Machinery Scheme:
- 400 modern agricultural machines are being distributed among farmers, with 250 in merged districts and 150 in settled districts.
- Farmers pay only 20% of the machinery cost; the remaining 80% is paid after final inspection.
2. Solarization Project:
- 400 agricultural tube wells are being shifted to solar energy, with 235 already solarized and 151 in settled districts and 84 in merged districts.
- This project, costing approximately Rs 1.12 billion, will benefit 1,000 farmers and create 2,500 employment opportunities.
3. Barren Land Restoration Project:
- A target of converting 5,000 acres of barren land into cultivable agricultural land has been set, including 3,400 acres in settled districts and 1,600 acres in merged districts.
- This project, costing approximately Rs 315 million, will benefit 1,000 farmers and create 2,500 employment opportunities.
According to the advisor, these steps are crucial for:
- Enhancing farmers’ production capacity
- Effective use of water resources
- Making barren land cultivable
- Creating new employment opportunities in rural areas
He emphasized that a strong agriculture sector is the foundation of a robust rural economy, improved food security, and prosperous farmers. The advisor concluded that modern machinery, solar energy, and increased cultivable land mark a practical journey towards better production and a brighter future for farmers in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
