KP Govt. Planning to Introduce Act to Prevent Child Marriages: CM Aide

PESHAWAR, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 18th Aug, 2026) : Special Assistant to Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa for Population Welfare, Tufail Anjum has stated that the provincial government plans to introduce a legislation to prevent marriages of children under the age of 18.

He expressed these views while chairing a meeting organized by UNFPA here on Tuesday. He emphasized that stringent legislation would be enforced for its successful implementation. Child marriage is a significant social issue, and the government, in collaboration with relevant institutions, is taking robust measures to address it.

UNFPA officials presented an overview of ongoing activities in health and population welfare sectors across the province, highlighting their organization’s support in these areas.

The meeting was informed that UNFPA is investing Rs. 65 million in health and population welfare initiatives while providing technical expertise to the Population Welfare Department. They are also assisting in tackling crucial social issues like child marriages.

Anjum acknowledged UNFPA’s cooperation, emphasizing that combined efforts from government and international organizations will further strengthen ongoing programs in population welfare, health, and social protection. He directed relevant authorities to expedite the process of proposed legislation against child marriages and ensure its effective implementation.
