KP Govt Steps Up Efforts To Expand Shelter Homes: Shafi Jan
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Information Minister Shafi Jan on Wednesday stated that the provincial government is intensifying efforts to enhance and expand shelter homes, ensuring no needy individual feels unsupported during difficult times.
According to a statement, the province aims to go beyond mere development projects, also providing aid to those in need at pivotal life moments.
Jan highlighted the progress made in the shelter homes sector, noting that out of four planned schemes, three are already in implementation while one is in the initial stages of planning. Currently, 11 operational shelter homes across 10 districts cater to a combined capacity of 674 individuals. Since their inception, these homes have facilitated accommodation for over 508,620 people, with 421,420 users in the past 10 months alone.
Two functional shelter homes at Torkham and Angor Adda provide overnight accommodation and meals to travelers and the less fortunate, each accommodating up to 100 people.
Two additional schemes are underway: one for shelter homes at DHQ Hospitals in Bajaur and North Waziristan, and another in major cities for permanent shelter home establishments, currently in the planning phase.
Jan emphasized that these facilities offer hope, safety, and humanity to vulnerable individuals seeking a place to stay during travel, medical treatment, or other unforeseen circumstances. He added that a welfare state’s true measure lies in its ability to support the weak and needy, ensuring they are never alone in society.
