KP Govt to Construct Sarkhwai Barani Dam in Mardan

(Peshawar, APP – UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 7th Sep, 2026) The provincial government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is poised to construct the Sarkhwai Barani Dam in District Mardan. This ambitious project is estimated to cost approximately three billion rupees and will irrigate around 1,162 acres of previously barren land.

The dam’s construction aims to boost agricultural activities in the region, significantly increasing farmer yields, and ensuring water availability for agriculture throughout all twelve months of the year.

A meeting was held on Monday, chaired by Special Assistant to KP CM on Population Welfare, Tufail Anjum. The gathering brought together key officials including:

  • Engineer Akhtar Rashid (Director General Small Dams)
  • Suleman Dawood (Director Small Dams)
  • Syed Suleman (Deputy Director Small Dams)

During the meeting, participants delved into various aspects of the Sarkhwai Barani Dam, its construction plans, and anticipated positive impacts on agriculture and the local economy.

Tufail Anjum, emphasizing the project’s significance, stated that the Sarkhwai Barani Dam would:

  • Bring barren land under cultivation
  • Provide farmers with a permanent and reliable water supply for irrigation year-round
  • Spark a genuine agricultural revolution in the area
  • Contribute to the financial prosperity of farmers and strengthen the local economy

He directed relevant authorities to expedite technical and administrative procedures, ensuring swift initiation of the construction process to benefit the public at the earliest opportunity.
