KP Health Programme Records 47.43% C-Section Delivery Rate

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Health Programme: A Concern for C-Sections

PESHAWAR, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - September 16, 2026) The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa health programme has achieved a significant milestone, but it raises questions about the increasing trend of Caesarean sections (C-sections). According to recent reports, the C-section delivery rate under this programme stands at 47.43%.

The data reveals a concerning pattern; private hospitals performed an astonishing 83.4% of these C-sections. This has led to speculation about the medical necessity of these procedures and the billing practices of healthcare facilities. The financial incentive for C-sections is apparent, as hospitals earn higher payments for this procedure compared to normal deliveries. The package for a C-section is Rs 26,575, while a normal delivery costs Rs 15,129 under the health programme.

This has prompted a closer examination of C-section practices and hospital billing within the programme, ensuring transparency and addressing any potential concerns regarding medical ethics.
