Lahore Marks Defence Day with Flag Hoisting and Tributes to Martyrs
LAHORE (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 6th Sep, 2026) A dignified Defence Day and Hilal-e-Istiqlal ceremony was held at Jinnah Hall here on Sunday, featuring the hoisting of the national flag and a sounding siren to pay tribute to the sacrifices of the nation’s armed forces and martyrs.
Commissioner Lahore Nauman Yousaf, Deputy Commissioner Lahore Muhammad Ali Ejaz, officers of the Pakistan Armed Forces, and senior officials from various government departments attended the event.
During the ceremony, a police contingent presented a ceremonial salute, while the police band performed national tunes and patriotic songs. Scouts and Civil Defence personnel also participated in a parade, raising spirited slogans of "Allah-o-Akbar", while school students presented patriotic performances.
Addressing the gathering, Commissioner Nauman Yousaf paid rich tribute to the martyrs and the parents who raised them, stating that Pakistan can achieve the status of a developed nation through honesty, hard work, and collective dedication. He described the Hilal-e-Istiqlal as a great honor for Lahore, emphasizing that Defence Day serves as a constant reminder of the supreme sacrifices rendered for the country's protection.
