Officials state that filing even 3 million tax returns this year seems challenging due to technical issues and frequent system failures within the current framework. Compared to last year's 5.9 million returns, this number appears significantly lower.

The Lahore Tax Bar Association has raised serious concerns regarding technical glitches in the IRIS system. They claim that taxpayers and tax practitioners are encountering substantial difficulties in filing income tax returns due to these technical problems and ongoing system outages.

The association's leadership, including President Rana Saqib Munir, General Secretary Farooq Gujjar, Vice President Mian Usman Javed, Joint Secretary Ali Raza Cheema, and Finance Secretary Saad Ayub Khan, emphasized the Federal Board of Revenue’s responsibility to provide taxpayers with optimal facilities for return filing. They further argued that repeated system failures not only pose challenges for taxpayers but also hinder the timely completion of tax returns.

They urged for a minimum duration of five years for the recently introduced fixed easy tax scheme for retailers, enabling traders to build confidence in policy continuity and facilitate their integration into the tax system. Additionally, they advocated for widespread promotion and publicization of the scheme and requested that the government incorporate proposals from all stakeholders during tax policy formulation.
