Leopard Injured in Car Collision Attacks Forest Official During Rescue in India
Leopard injured after being struck by a car suddenly attacked a forest department official during a rescue operation in India’s Karnataka state.

The incident unfolded on a highway in Karnataka’s Davangere district, where the injured leopard was lying on the road after being hit by a vehicle.
According to the Associated Press (AP), a forest department team sprang into action upon receiving reports of the stricken animal. They aimed to safely restrain the creature and facilitate its transfer for treatment.
The rescue crew administered a tranquilizer, but before it took full effect, the leopard attacked a forest official.
Video captures the leopard pouncing on the official, knocking him to the ground. Before he could recover, his colleagues rushed to aid him. They attempted to shoo away the leopard with a stick, after which it retreated and the official rose.
The team eventually rescued the leopard and transported it to a hospital for treatment of its injuries sustained in the accident.
Following the release of the video online, social media users discussed such incidents involving wild animals and the risks faced by rescue teams. Many expressed concern over the rapid expansion of human settlements, roads, and infrastructure, which shrinks wildlife habitats and frequently forces animals onto highways.
One user noted that such rescue operations may increase in frequency due to human activities and poorly planned infrastructure. Another criticized the vehicle‘s driver for speeding away instead of stopping after hitting the animal, while risking their lives to save the leopard.
A user also questioned whether appropriate safety equipment and procedures should be implemented during wild animal rescues, as handling a frightened injured animal by hand can be extremely hazardous.
