LHC Seeks Replies from Punjab IGP, Lahore DC Over JI Protest
LAHORE (APP – UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 7th Sep, 2026) The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Monday sought replies from the Punjab Inspector General of Police (IGP) and Lahore Deputy Commissioner over a petition challenging the Jamaat-e-Islami’s protest and sit-in on The Mall.
Justice Ahmad Nadeem Arshad heard a petition filed by citizen Naseem Akhtar, who contended that the Jamaat-e-Islami’s sit-in on The Mall was causing severe difficulties for commuters and residents.
During the hearing, the court observed that sit-in on The Mall was creating considerable problems for the public, with people taking a significant amount of time to reach their destinations. After hearing initial arguments, the court issued notices to the Punjab IGP and Lahore DC and directed them to submit detailed reports at the next hearing.
Additional Advocate General Punjab Chaudhry Tanveer Akhtar appeared before the court on behalf of the provincial government.
