Lindsay Clancy's ex-husband says he forgave her so he would not be 'eaten up inside forever'

Lindsay Clancy's Ex-Husband On Forgiveness And Online Hate

Patrick Clancy, the ex-husband of US mother accused of murdering their three children, has revealed he forgave her to avoid being consumed by grief. In an interview with CBS (our US news partner), he discussed his struggle with mental illness leading up to the tragic event.

"It's painful to see," Patrick expressed about the online hate directed at him and his family. During the trial, he faced wild accusations and vitriol, yet chose to forgive his ex-wife, attributing her actions to mental illness.

Lindsay Clancy has not disputed killing their children, Cora (5), Dawson (3), and Callan (8 months), in January 2023. Her lawyers argued she was suffering from severe mental illness, specifically postpartum psychosis, at the time of the murders. A mistrial was declared earlier this month due to the jury's inability to reach a unanimous verdict on murder charges.

Patrick shared his perspective: "'I didn't know how to manage a postpartum illness,' he told CBS. 'Mental illness has this ability to be tragically deceptive'." He decided to forgive Lindsay, believing her actions were driven by mental health issues.

The interview also touched on the challenges Patrick faced in the aftermath of the tragedy, including suicidal thoughts and online accusations. The speculation surrounding his role in the murders was described as "deeply harmful" by Patrick, who emphasized the importance of focusing on the well-being of his children.
