Another Major Fire at Derelict Mill Complex Used in Peaky Blinders
A significant fire has erupted at Dalton Mills in Keighley, the location where Peaky Blinders and Downton Abbey were filmed. The blaze, which began around 8:00 PM BST on Saturday, required 12 fire engines at its peak, according to West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service (WYFRS). Due to the severity, nearby residents were evacuated, and as of 11:00 PM BST, 10 fire engines remained on the scene.
"Members of the public are still advised to avoid the area to allow emergency services to operate safely and effectively," a spokesperson from WYFRS stated.
This is the third fire at the Grade II-listed Victorian building this year, following incidents in July 2025 and a major fire in 2022 that significantly damaged the former textile mill. Two teenagers were convicted of arson in relation to the 2022 incident.
Robbie Moore, MP for Keighley & Ilkley, expressed his concern:
"It is deeply infuriating. This situation simply cannot continue. I have been calling on our local authority to secure this site as best as possible for years now."
He commended WYFRS and police for their efficient response.
The Crown Estate, which took legal responsibility for the building in 2024, is aware of security concerns regarding the site, which has seen repeated trespass incidents. Bradford Council is working with Historic England on additional security measures.
