Makkah Defence Pact Reflects Growing Unity, Defence Cooperation Among Muslim Countries: Faisal Karim Kundi
LAHORE, (APP – UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 26th Aug, 2026) Governor Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Faisal Karim Kundi on Wednesday stated that the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement among Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Turkey marked a significant step towards fortifying unity amongst Muslim nations, fostering collective security, and enhancing defence cooperation, all in light of the prevailing global situation.
Addressing a ceremony on “Makkah Joint Defence Agreement, Protection of Haramain Sharifain and Current National Situation” at the central secretariat of Jamiat Ahle Hadith Pakistan, Quran-o-Sunnah Islamic Centre, he noted that Pakistan-Saudi Arabia relations are deeply rooted in faith, religious affinity, brotherhood, and centuries-old historical ties. The peoples of both nations share a profound connection, respect, and affection for one another.
The governor emphasised the importance of protecting Haramain Sharifain as a shared responsibility among Muslims worldwide. He asserted that the current global climate necessitates Islamic countries setting aside their differences to promote unity, solidarity, mutual trust, and cooperation.
Faisal Karim Kundi highlighted Pakistan’s robust defence capabilities not only as a safeguard for its national defence and security but also as a contribution to the protection and sovereignty of brotherly Muslim nations, adding that regional peace is pivotal. He underlined Pakistan’s longstanding preference for peace, sovereignty, mutual respect, and peaceful coexistence, viewing cooperation with fellow Islamic countries as a crucial element of its foreign policy.
He expressed the belief that the Makkah agreement can further cement defence cooperation and mutual understanding amongst Islamic nations, stressing that such agreements should primarily aim at promoting peace, stability, sovereignty, and collective security rather than confrontation with any nation.
The governor called for strengthening Pakistan’s ties with Saudi Arabia and other Muslim countries in various sectors, including defence, diplomacy, economy, and trade. He also emphasised enhancing cooperation in education, science & technology, and economics. He suggested, through mutual consultation, consensus, and the consent of affected countries, bringing Syria, Bangladesh, and others into broader frameworks of defence cooperation.
Kundi emphasised that Muslim world unity should serve collective interests, peace, and sovereignty rather than fomenting confrontation.
He noted the Muslim world is facing political instability, economic hardships, terrorism, extremism, and other security challenges, making collective action and a common strategy increasingly vital.
President Jamiat Ahle Hadith Pakistan, Allama Dr Hafiz Hisham Elahi Zaheer, also spoke at the event.
