Man Accused Of Killing Wife In Assam Over Infidelity Suspicion Dies In Police Custody

The suspect suddenly attacked police officers near a hill and jumped from a moving vehicle into a ravine, police officials said.

DELHI, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 14th Sep, 2026) A 30-year-old man accused of killing his wife in Guwahati, Assam, over suspicions of an illicit relationship has died in police custody.

According to Indian media, Ramanuj Goswami was being taken back to the police station after a medical examination at Guwahati Medical College and Hospital on Monday morning when he attacked officers. He jumped from the moving vehicle, falling into a deep ravine and sustaining serious injuries.

Police immediately shifted him to Guwahati Medical College and Hospital, where doctors proclaimed him dead.

Goswami had been arrested on 3rd Sep on allegations of killing his 25-year-old wife, Riya Talukdar, at their Guwahati flat. Police said the suspect suspected his wife of infidelity. After neighbors complained of a foul smell coming from the flat, police took action and recovered the victim’s severed head and fingers from a black plastic bag kept in a refrigerator.

Cases of murder and destruction of evidence had been registered against the suspect. He had surrendered before police on 6th Sep and was on a seven-day police remand.

Indian media reports that on 8th Sep, police took him to the crime scene, where he threatened, “If I am released from jail, I will kill the man with whom my wife was in a relationship as well.”
