A 23-year-old man has been charged with murder following a fatal house fire in which Natalie McDonald and her seven-year-old niece Valentina Foster died.

Natalie McDonald, aged 34, and Valentina Foster perished in the blaze at a house in Grangetown, near Middlesbrough, on Wednesday, 26 August.

Jaden Wright, of no fixed address, has been charged with:

  • Two counts of murder
  • Multiple grievous bodily harm offences

He will appear at Teesside Magistrates’ Court later.

Senior investigating officer Katie Smith from Northumbria Police expressed her sorrow over the tragic incident and thanked local residents for their support throughout the investigation.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Cleveland Police.

Katie Nicolson, from Crown Prosecution Service North East, stated that sufficient evidence exists to bring the case to court, reminding all concerned of the defendant’s right to a fair trial.
