Federal Minister for Law and Justice, Azam Nazeer Tarar, on Thursday stated that a Management Oversight Committee has been established to diligently oversee the administrative operations and performance of government hospitals.

He revealed that this committee was formed on the Prime Minister’s directives to scrutinize institutions like the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS).

Dr Azhar Mahmood Kayani, Major General (retd) and Health Adviser to the Chief Minister of Punjab, has been appointed as the committee’s chair.

The committee’s responsibilities encompass:

  • Examining patient care, safety protocols, and administrative systems within government hospitals.
  • Formulating recommendations for institutional reforms and enhancements.
  • Assessing PIMS’ administrative structure and management, and submitting suggestions to the Prime Minister for strengthening its institutional management and service delivery.

Tarar emphasized the government’s dedication to optimizing public-sector hospitals’ performance, ensuring patients receive safe, efficient, and high-quality healthcare services. He framed this initiative as a crucial step within the government’s broader hospital management, accountability, and patient safety agenda.
