HOUSTON, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News) - Four crew members, participating in the Crew Health and Performance Exploration Analog (CHAPEA) mission, have emerged from their 378-day isolation at NASA's Johnson Space Centre in Houston.

Ellen Ellis, the medical officer for the mission, expressed her feelings upon exiting, stating, "It was a very challenging year. We analog astronauts lived in captivity of our own free will."

The crew, housed in a 158-square-metre, 3D-printed habitat, completed various tasks such as cultivating crops in simulated Martian soil and communicating with NASA officials with delays mimicking interplanetary communication lags.

NASA aims to send a human mission to Mars as early as the 2030s. Post-mission evaluations and debriefings with NASA scientists are scheduled to take place over the subsequent two weeks.
