The Iranian president departed from his prepared speech after hearing what he described as Trump’s threatening remarks and decided to respond to them, he said in an interview.

NEW YORK, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 24th Sep, 2026) Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian changed his speech after his US counterpart Donald Trump's address to the United Nations General Assembly, he told the state broadcaster.

He explained that the sentence "Iran’s military strength is for defense; we do not need to seek permission from anyone," was added in response to President Trump’s threats. Similarly, the statement "We seek partnership for security in the region and want our neighbors to be strong as well," was also later incorporated.

Pezeshkian stated that he departed from his prepared speech after hearing Trump’s threatening speech at the United Nations. He decided to respond directly to those threats in his own address.

He emphasized that the Iranian nation would not bow to force. "We are ready for negotiations, but we will not accept the language of force," he declared.

The Iranian president pointed out that those claiming to champion peace were themselves violating international laws. "They accuse whoever they want to destroy of terrorism. They hold us responsible for instability in the region because we do not bow before them," he said.

Pezeshkian maintained that Iran had not attacked any country and had always defended itself. He argued that Iran sought military strength not for aggression but for self-defense, adding that Iran must be strong enough that no one would even think of threatening its survival.
