Massive Dengue Breeding Grounds Uncovered in Rawalpindi; Vector Surveillance Intensifies
RAWALPINDI, (APP – UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 7th Sep, 2026) District health authorities have uncovered extensive dengue mosquito breeding grounds across Rawalpindi during routine anti-dengue operations. Reassuringly, the district has reported zero active hospital admissions or deaths through the first week of September.
According to surveillance data released by health authorities on Monday, only six confirmed cases have been recorded this year, all of which occurred earlier in July.
High-Risk Areas and Vector Density
The most significant larval activity was recorded in:
- UC Girja
- Gulistan Colony
- Rahimabad area
Other visible breeding hotspots were detected in:
- UC Morgah
- Dhoke Mangtal
- UC Kulyal
- CTR-10 Kamalabad
- CTC-8 Dheri Hasanabad
- Chak Jalaldin
- UC Chaklala
A detailed breakdown shows that field teams detected dengue breeding at:
- 12,906 houses out of 4,531,894 homes checked.
- 19,900 spots out of 8,156,563 individual sites inspected.
Vector density statistics reveal that 44 Union Councils are currently operating above a Breteau Index of 10, signaling an elevated threat of transmission if left unchecked.
Extensive Field Operations and Legal Enforcement
To curb mosquito breeding, a massive network of 1,400 field teams has been deployed, achieving 100 percent coverage across all 17,859 registered hotspots.
In tandem with inspections, enforcement teams have launched strict legal actions against standard operating procedure (SOP) violations. The latest report shows that authorities:
- Registered 1,973 FIRs
- Sealed 537 premises
- Issued 1,778 challans
- Collected Rs. 2.12 million in fines from property owners who failed to clear stagnant water.
Administrative oversight remains rigorous, with progress closely monitored through 29 District Emergency Response Committee (DERC) and 97 Tehsil Emergency Response Committee (TERC) review meetings to ensure strict inter-departmental coordination.
