McIlroy would vote for LIV players' PGA Tour return

Rory McIlroy on LIV Golf: A Return to the PGA Tour?

BBC Sport reports that Rory McIlroy would vote to welcome LIV Golf players back to the PGA Tour, stating that "a rising tide lifts all boats."

McIlroy, a vocal critic of LIV since its 2022 launch, believes the breakaway circuit's execution was poor despite its substantial financial backing. He suggests they could have partnered with governing bodies to better effect.

"LIV had probably half of a good idea that was executed pretty poorly. They had a lot of capital but I think a lot of that capital was wasted in some ways."

When asked if he'd support LIV players rejoining the tours he plays on, McIlroy responded definitively, "Yes, I would."

He further elaborates:

  • "It looks like every day that goes by, there's another player that was on LIV who says that they're not going to rejoin for LIV 2.0. So I think it is going to be very difficult for them to get out of this Chapter 11 bankruptcy and go forward."
  • "If they do, it's certainly not going to be a threat to the traditional order of the game as maybe it once was."

McIlroy and Tiger Woods initially opposed LIV due to concerns it would fragment professional golf. McIlroy acknowledges their interest in launching Tomorrow's Golf League (TGL) and believes LIV's emergence took away from TGL's potential.
