Mid-career Management Course Officers Visit Parliament House
ISLAMABAD, (APP – UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 7th Sep, 2026) A 29-member delegation of Grade-18 (BPS-18) Civil Servants undergoing the 47th Mid-Career Management Course (MCMC) at the National Institute of Public Administration (NIPA), Karachi, along with 4 faculty members, visited the Parliament House, Islamabad on Monday.
Upon their arrival, the delegation was warmly welcomed by senior officials of the Senate Secretariat.
Secretary Senate, Syed Hasnain Haider, delivered a detailed briefing to the delegation regarding the constitutional role, powers, legislative procedures, administrative structure, and core responsibilities of the Upper House. He emphasized that the Senate serves as the custodian of equal representation for all federating units, playing a pivotal role in promoting national cohesion and safeguarding the rights and interests of the smaller provinces.
Joint Secretary, Senate Secretariat, Hammad Khan Marri, while briefing the delegation, informed them that the Senate was established to ensure equal representation for all provinces. He explained the role and performance of Senate Standing Committees, the system of parliamentary oversight, and parliamentary diplomacy. He added that the Senate performs vital functions including legislation, oversight, accountability, and public representation, holding a key position in strengthening the democratic process through effective national policy-making. He also shed light on the historical evolution of the Upper House.
The participants showed keen interest throughout the briefing and actively engaged in an interactive question and answer session. Secretary Senate Syed Hasnain Haider provided comprehensive and detailed answers to all queries raised by the participants.
Later, the delegation visited the Senate Museum, where they were briefed on Pakistan’s parliamentary history, the stages of the legislative process, and the constitutional duties of the Senate. A documentary depicting the rich history of the Upper House was also screened. The participants displayed special interest in the statues of prominent national leaders and historical photographs displayed in the museum.
The delegation also visited Gali-e-Dastoor (Constitution Street), where they received detailed information regarding Pakistan’s constitutional and parliamentary history, expressing deep appreciation for the historical and constitutional exhibits. Furthermore, the delegation was guided through the main Senate Hall. Shields were also exchanged between the Secretary Senate and the head of the visiting delegation as a gesture of goodwill.
At the conclusion of the visit, the members of the delegation commended the proactive role of the Senate Secretariat in promoting democratic values, institutional transparency, and strengthening the parliamentary system.
