Minister of State for Law and Justice, Barrister Aqeel Malik Hails PCA Orders on Indus Waters Treaty
Minister of State for Law and Justice, Barrister Aqeel Malik on Monday welcomed the orders of the Permanent Court of Arbitration (PCA) regarding the Indus Waters Treaty, terming them a victory for Pakistan. He stated that the developments validated Pakistan’s principled position on the treaty.
Speaking to a private television channel, Malik said the decision of the international arbitration court had vindicated Pakistan’s narrative on the Indus Waters Treaty. He maintained that India’s unilateral decisions regarding the treaty constituted a violation of international law.
Commenting on the creation of new provinces, he suggested that establishing new administrative units or provinces could potentially improve governance and public service delivery. In response to a question, Malik advised that the debate on creating new provinces should be held at the appropriate constitutional and political forums.
