Mirpur Business Community Rejects Strike Calls, Vows to Resume Economic Activities
Mirpur, (APP – UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 8th Sep, 2026) Stakeholders, including representatives of the business community, have agreed to continue restoration of commercial activities in Mirpur, the major business hub of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, amid intensified measures to maintain law and order.
A high-level meeting chaired by Deputy Commissioner Mirpur Chaudhry Sajid Aslam on Tuesday decided that strict action would be taken against anyone violating the law, forcibly closing shops or attempting to create disorder or exert mob pressure.
The decision was taken during a meeting between the Deputy Commissioner and a delegation of traders and business representatives led by President Mirpur Chamber of Commerce and Industry Umar Shehzad. The participants discussed maintenance of law and order, protection of traders, restoration of business activities and provision of essential facilities to citizens.
They unanimously agreed that no individual or group would be allowed to take the law into its own hands, obstruct commercial activities or disturb peace in the city. Authorities also decided to closely monitor the misuse of social media and deal with elements involved in spreading provocative or disruptive content in accordance with the law.
Deputy Commissioner Chaudhry Sajid Aslam and SSP Mirpur Khurram Iqbal said protection of citizens, traders and their properties along with maintenance of peace remained among the administration’s top priorities. They said all available resources would be utilized to restore normalcy, brotherhood and mutual cooperation in the city.
The participants also noted that restoration of internet services had helped revive routine life and business activities, stressing that uninterrupted communication services were essential for both citizens and the business community. They called for responsible use of social media and said any attempt to incite unrest or disrupt public order would be effectively dealt with.
President Mirpur Chamber of Commerce and Industry Umar Shehzad urged the administration to ensure comprehensive security for traders so that business activities could continue without interruption. He said the business community could no longer afford further protests and economic disruption and called upon all stakeholders to resolve issues through dialogue, consultation and mutual understanding.
The traders assured the administration of their full cooperation in maintaining law and order, while seeking effective security arrangements to keep shops and businesses open and sustain economic activity.
