Shehbaz Sharif made 14 foreign visits over the past year and spent 33 days abroad, yet foreign investment fell another 32 percent compared with the previous year, said former federal minister Asad Umar.
ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 28th Sep, 2026) Former Federal Minister Asad Umar strongly criticised Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s foreign visits, economic policies and the ongoing political crisis, advising the rulers and the establishment to end political instability and return to constitutional limits.
In statements posted on social media platform X, Asad Umar shared data on the prime minister’s foreign travels, stating that:
"Mr Prime Minister, for God’s sake, please stay home.”
He criticised the government's double standards regarding the International Monetary Fund (IMF), questioning why they seek IMF approval when providing relief to the public but fear losing power.
Umar noted that 7 billion people, or more than 85 percent of the world’s population, live in countries with higher per capita incomes than Pakistan. This figure rises to 98 percent if African nations are excluded. He attributed the country's economic decline to political turmoil and called for a new direction.
He concluded that no amount of work, IMF agreements, or institutional reforms could achieve economic growth until Pakistan’s political crisis is resolved.
