Survivors Describe the Horror
- Kalpana Malla from Nuwakot district lost her entire family to the flood: her father, mother, sister, and her sister’s children. "This flood took everything," she said.
- Sugam Malla, her son, climbed onto a rooftop and survived, but he was worried about his sister, whose mobile was no longer reachable.
- Goma Pandit lost her buffaloes and all her cattle. Her farmland, along with ten sacks of mustard seeds, tons of corn, and rice paddy, were all swept away.
Desperate Search and Rescue Efforts
At Kathmandu’s TU Teaching Hospital, families wait anxiously for news of their loved ones, many of whom are missing.
- Ram Khumari Shrestha is desperate to find her husband, who was off to Rasuwa for work. She last heard from him at 8 pm yesterday.
- Mani Shrestha Bishwa is also at the hospital, hoping to locate his younger brother, cousin, uncle, and friend.
- Sonam Dorjee, a trekking guide, narrowly missed the flood in his village, Rasuwa Syafru, by about an hour. He described the flood as "sudden and devastating" and is praying for his sister’s safe return.
