NA-168 By-Elections: Scrutiny Of Nominations Papers Of Two Candidates Completed
BAHAWALPUR, (APP – UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 23rd Aug, 2026) The scrutiny of nomination papers of Chaudhry Tariq Bashir Cheema and his son Chaudhry Waleedad Cheema for the upcoming by-election in NA-168 Bahawalpur has been completed, official sources stated on Sunday.
The National Assembly seat became vacant following the death of MNA Malik Iqbal Channar. The scrutiny process for candidates contesting the by-election formally commenced, with both candidates appearing before Returning Officer Ayesha Khan at the District Council Bahawalpur office, where their nomination papers were examined.
According to the election schedule:
- The Returning Officer will complete scrutiny of nomination papers by August 24.
- Candidates may file appeals against the Returning Officer’s decisions until August 28.
- The Appellate Tribunal will decide the appeals by September 3.
- The revised list of candidates will be published on September 4.
- The last date for withdrawal of nomination papers and publication of the final list of candidates is September 7.
- Election symbols will be allotted to contesting candidates on September 8.
- Polling for the NA-168 Bahawalpur by-election will be held on Sunday, September 27.
