Ruby Tui: Trailfinders Women sign New Zealand great on one-year deal
BBC Sport understands that Ruby Tui, 34, a World Cup-winning New Zealand international, has agreed a one-year deal with Trailfinders Women, last season’s Premiership Women’s Rugby finalists.
"Ruby is one of the most respected figures in the women’s game," said Trailfinders head coach Barney Maddison, as quoted on the club’s website. Her experience of winning at the highest level, combined with her energy and leadership, will be a significant asset to the squad.
As well as being a Rugby World Cup winner in 2021, Tui boasts Olympic gold and silver medals from the sevens game. She was also named World Rugby’s women’s sevens player of the year in 2019. In the 15-a-side game, she played a key role in New Zealand’s 2021 World Cup final victory over England.
"I feel like I’ve seen a lot of women’s rugby, and it’s the biggest and best women’s competition in the world right now," Tui added. "The whole Trailfinders team have been so welcoming since I got here, and watching them last season had me excited about how they’re playing."
