ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 28th Sep, 2026)
New Zealand has introduced various work visa pathways for skilled foreign workers, some of which may also pave the way toward permanent residence in the future.
According to details, the New Zealand government has released comprehensive information on different temporary and permanent work visa categories and their procedures for foreign nationals, particularly skilled Pakistanis.
For Pakistani citizens, the Accredited Employer Work Visa is an important route to securing employment. It generally requires a job offer from an accredited New Zealand employer, while the visa duration may vary depending on the job, skills, salary, and other conditions.
New Zealand also offers work visa pathways that can provide an opportunity to progress from employment to permanent residence, including several visas under the skilled migrant category.
Individuals wishing to invest in a business can also apply for a Business Investor Visa, which requires an investment of at least NZ$1 million in an established New Zealand business.
Specific visa pathways are also available, under certain circumstances, to partners of New Zealand citizens, students or work visa holders, allowing them to obtain work rights.
Meanwhile, foreign students who complete their education may be eligible for a Post Study Work Visa under certain conditions and continue working in New Zealand. Its duration may vary according to their education and qualifications.
Specific protective work visas are also available for people who face exploitation or abuse while employed in New Zealand. These visas allow affected individuals to legally continue working for another employer.
The authorities said visa conditions differ for each category, making it essential to check the relevant visa’s eligibility requirements, employment conditions, and work rights before applying.
Pakistani citizens can use the Filter Visa and Look Up Visa tools available on New Zealand’s official immigration website to find a suitable visa according to their circumstances.
