Newcastle United have agreed a deal worth up to £52m for Manchester City midfielder Nico Gonzalez.
Newcastle's Transfer Strategy
So far, Newcastle has signed players exclusively from the continent. However, with recent departures like Bruno Guimaraes, the club recognizes the need to bring in Premier League experience.
About Nico Gonzalez
Gonzalez, aged 24, joined Manchester City from Porto just over a year ago but has expressed his desire to stay at the Etihad previously. He will be the fourth senior midfielder to leave City this summer following Bernardo Silva, Rodri, and Tijjani Reijnders.
Why is Gonzalez a Good Fit?
Despite his short time in the Premier League, Gonzalez's skills make him an ideal fit for Newcastle's developing squad under head coach Matthias Jaissle. He led all midfielders who played at least 900 minutes in Europe's top five leagues last season in high turnovers per game and line-breaking passes per match.
Newcastle's Summer Transfers
Newcastle has made six signings so far, including goalkeepers Lukas Hornicek and Ewen Jaouen, defender Amar Dedic, midfielders Aladji Bamba and Sean Steur, and forward Bazoumana Toure.
