Newcastle United have signed Nico Gonzalez from Manchester City on a long-term contract after he completed his medical on Tyneside.

"I'm really happy to be here at this amazing club... I can't wait to start wearing it on the pitch for this club." - Nico Gonzalez

Newcastle have primarily signed players from Europe in recent weeks, but recognised the need for Premier League experience following several departures.

Gonzalez, 24, joined Manchester City from Porto last year but has only been at the Etihad for a season-and-a-half. He fits Newcastle's target age profile and can add further development under head coach Matthias Jaissle.

"Nico is a really strong ball carrier... he reads the game well and his physicality makes him well suited to the Premier League." - Matthias Jaissle

Gonzalez's move comes after Manchester City signed Elliot Anderson from Nottingham Forest for £116m and Ayyoub Bouaddi from Lille for £85.6m. He was an unused substitute as City defeated Bournemouth 2-1 last weekend.

He becomes the fourth senior midfielder to leave Manchester City this summer after Bernardo Silva, Rodri, and Tijjani Reijnders.
