Mayor Karachi, Barrister Murtaza Wahab, on Tuesday stated that no loss of life occurred in a fire incident at the Mayor’s Office, assuring that his staff and other personnel remained safe.

He told the media that financial losses caused by the fire would be compensated soon. He praised the Fire Brigade team for their courage and determination in bringing the situation under control.

Wahab announced that the Fire Brigade would conduct a detailed inspection and survey of the site, sharing the exact causes of the fire and other details with the media afterward.

Referring to recent major public activities and events in the metropolis, the Mayor expressed his relief that no one was harmed despite the fire breaking out in his office room this morning. He attributed this to his careful approach while discussing legal matters, promising that the final facts would emerge after the Fire Brigade completed its investigation.

The Mayor clarified that while his room was completely damaged and furniture destroyed, no official records were lost as no files were permanently kept there. He explained that files brought to him for approval were signed and immediately returned to the relevant departments.

Initial assessments suggest that the fire might have originated from a fault in the air-conditioning system of the Mayor’s room, with its outdoor unit installed near the kitchen. However, the actual cause would be determined after a thorough inspection by the Fire Brigade.

Despite the incident, Wahab assured continuity in his official duties, stating that he would work from another room in the office and that visits to different parts of the city and routine activities would also proceed as usual. He postponed a scheduled press conference regarding development projects until one or two days later due to the fire incident.

The Mayor emphasized that the incident would be internally reviewed, with all available evidence, including CCTV footage, examined. The Chief Fire Officer has been assigned to conduct the inspection and investigation. Once the area is cleared, the investigation process will begin, and the media will be informed upon completion of the report.

Regarding fire safety equipment, the Mayor confirmed that fire extinguishers and other safety gear were kept to handle any emergency situation. He noted that even today, initial response to the fire involved using fire extinguishers to control the situation.
