Watch: Norway’s new king takes oath as mourners pay respects to his late father
The newly crowned King Haakon VIII of Norway has sworn an oath before the country’s parliament in Oslo, marking the first significant step of his reign. During the ceremony on Tuesday, the parliament also observed a minute’s silence for King Haakon’s father, King Harald V, who passed away on Friday.
Haakon’s wife, Queen Mette-Marit, was absent due to a lung transplant she underwent. Following the oath-taking, mourners began paying their respects to the late King Harald V, whose coffin lies in state at the Royal Palace until September 8th.
