NST Lauds Punjab’s Technology-Driven Environmental Initiatives, Invites CM Maryam to Global Summit

The Nobel Sustainability Trust (NST) has praised Punjab’s technology-driven initiatives in areas such as climate resilience, forest restoration, wildlife conservation, and air quality management, and extended an invitation to Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif to speak at its global summit in Hong Kong.
The invitation, penned by NST Chairman Peter Nobel in a letter dated August 22nd, expresses the Trust’s desire to welcome Maryam to future international events and sustainability summits. The letter highlights the Punjab government’s accomplishments under her leadership, including:
- Climate Resilience: The province’s efforts in building data-driven resilience against climate change.
- Environmental Protection: Initiatives focused on preserving and protecting natural resources.
- Wildlife Conservation: Measures to safeguard and preserve Pakistan’s diverse wildlife.
- Forestry and Ecosystem Restoration: Replanting forests and restoring ecosystems for a greener future.
- Multi-sectoral Air Quality Management: Addressing air pollution through collaborative efforts across sectors.
The NST acknowledges that these initiatives demonstrate "a forward-looking vision for sustainable development" and have contributed significantly to Pakistan’s environmental progress. They specifically praise Punjab’s:
- Use of digital monitoring systems
- Application of geospatial analytics and remote sensing
- Integration of artificial intelligence and environmental data platforms
- Emphasis on evidence-based decision-making
These technological advancements, the NST believes, have enhanced Punjab’s ability to mitigate climate risks, optimize resource management, and implement effective policies.
The Trust further commends Maryam’s commitment to strengthening environmental governance while promoting economic and social development, which has garnered international recognition. They believe her experience and leadership will be a valuable asset at the global summit, inspiring dialogue between international leaders from diverse backgrounds.
The NST describes itself as an independent foundation established in Switzerland in 2007 by members of the Nobel family.
