Over 100 Contract Workers Sacked Over Age Policy
Muzaffargar, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 16th Sep, 2026) More than 100 sanitary workers hired under the Suthra Punjab Authority contract have been rendered jobless following a revision in the hiring policy by the contracting company, which bars the employment of workers above 50 years of age.
According to a spokesperson, the private contracting company implemented a new policy barring the retention of field workers aged over 50. The sudden enforcement of the rule has immediately affected more than 100 employees.
Expressing deep concern, the affected workers stated that the abrupt layoffs pose a severe threat to the survival of their households. Many noted that they depend solely on this daily livelihood to run their homes and had no alternative source of income.
On the other hand, management of the contracting company maintained that under its updated administrative framework, workers above the age of 50 cannot be retained in service.
The affected workers have appealed to Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, the Commissioner of Dera Ghazi Khan, and the Deputy Commissioner of Muzaffargarh to take immediate notice of their plight and intervene to protect their employment.
