Over 33,940 Drug Peddlers Held With Narcotics Across Punjab This Year

Punjab Police arrested 33,940 drug peddlers and registered 33,542 cases across the province during the current year as part of Chief Minister’s "Drug Free Punjab" vision.

According to a Punjab Police spokesperson, during operations, police recovered:

  • 17,577 kilograms of charas
  • 1,538 kilograms of heroin
  • 1,137 kilograms of ice (crystal methamphetamine)
  • 750 kilograms of opium
  • More than 487,000 litres of liquor

In Lahore, police arrested 4,830 drug peddlers and registered 4,675 cases during the year. Operations resulted in the recovery of:

  • 1,752 kilograms of charas
  • 103 kilograms of heroin
  • 513 kilograms of ice
  • 46 kilograms of opium
  • 20,580 litres of liquor

Inspector General of Police (IGP) Abdul Kareem directed officers to intensify action against major drug dealers, smugglers, and all elements involved in the drug supply chain. He ordered strict legal action against those involved in the online sale and purchase of narcotics and accelerated operations around educational institutions and hostels.

The IGP emphasized the need for sustained, coordinated efforts to disrupt the entire drug supply chain and protect citizens, particularly young people, from the menace of narcotics.
