Officials state that Pakistan stands firm with Saudi Arabia and is prepared to safeguard the Two Holy Mosques, as reported by journalist Wasim Abbasi.
According to a post on X by Wasim Abbasi, Pakistan has activated its defence agreement with Saudi Arabia. He mentioned that officials confirmed Pakistan's solidarity with Saudi Arabia and its commitment to protect the holy sites.
Defence Minister Khawaja Asif further emphasized that no formal agreement is necessary for defending Mecca, stating:
"I think the situation has arisen in which the Makkah Agreement is to be enforced."
He assured that Pakistan would fulfill its obligations as per the agreement.
Asfiy added that Pakistan and Türkiye would offer practical and diplomatic support to Saudi Arabia if tensions with the Houthis escalate, characterizing the Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia as unwise. He also suggested Iran should avoid taking sides in such a situation.
The Defence Minister advised against opening new fronts or escalating conflicts while the Gulf crisis between Iran, the United States, and Israel remains delicate.
