Pakistan Deepens Digital Finance and Technology Engagement with Hong Kong
UrduPoint reports that Pakistan is strengthening its cooperation with Hong Kong in the fields of digital finance, tokenised capital markets, regulatory innovation, and frontier technologies.
Minister of State and Chairman of Pakistan Virtual Assets Regulatory Authority (PVARA), Bilal Bin Saqib, led this initiative by holding a series of high-level meetings in Hong Kong. During his visit, he met with:
- Arthur Yuen, Deputy Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Monetary Authority
- Christopher Hui, Secretary for Financial Services and the Treasury of the Hong Kong SAR Government
- Duncan Chiu, Member of the Legislative Council representing the technology and innovation functional constituency
The discussions focused on Hong Kong’s experience in developing modern financial infrastructure and regulating digital assets. Specific topics included:
- Digital bonds
- Settlement infrastructure
- Technology-enabled supervision
- Tokenization of government securities, sukuk, and other real-world financial assets
- Artificial intelligence
- Cybersecurity
- Web3 ecosystems
Saqib expressed Pakistan’s interest in learning from Hong Kong’s experience, particularly regarding tokenisation and its potential for future development. He highlighted that Pakistan has established a regulatory framework for its virtual asset sector and is now aiming to attract credible companies, mobilise capital, and develop real-world use cases.
"Hong Kong has demonstrated how regulation, financial infrastructure, and government leadership can work together to bring emerging technologies into mainstream finance," said Saqib.
