Pakistan to Soon Table Legislation for Ratification of Singapore Convention on Mediation: Law Minister
Federal Minister for Law and Justice Senator Azam Nazeer Tarar on Monday stated that Pakistan’s implementing legislation and ratification process for the Singapore Convention on Mediation is progressing smoothly, with the legislation set to be tabled before Parliament soon.
Addressing the Singapore Convention Week 2026 via a video address, the Federal Minister noted that Pakistan became the 58th signatory to the convention in May 2025. He explained that upon enactment of the implementing legislation, mediated settlements reached in Pakistan will be enforceable across the convention’s other 57 signatory states, offering greater certainty and confidence to foreign investors in resolving commercial disputes.
Senator Azam Nazeer Tarar emphasized that Pakistan’s commitment to the Convention is not merely symbolic but a practical step aimed at reducing litigation risks, protecting commercial relationships, and demonstrating Pakistan’s view of rule of law as an economic asset. He added that an effective mediation framework will contribute to creating a more predictable and investor-friendly business environment, facilitating the swift resolution of commercial disputes.
The Minister expressed Pakistan’s objective to establish an efficient dispute resolution framework that safeguards commercial partnerships and bolsters investor confidence. He appreciated the Ministry of Law, Government of Singapore, and Singapore International Mediation Centre (SIMC) for their guidance and collaboration in advancing the process.
He also extended his best wishes for the success of Singapore Convention Week 2026.
