Pakistani Woman Sentenced to More Than 6 Years for $64 Million US Government Fraud

Prosecutors argued that Zakia Khan established a daycare center for senior citizens and used it as a cover to fraudulently obtain a substantial sum from the US government.
A federal court in New York announced the sentence for Zakia Khan, a Pakistani-origin woman, who was convicted of defrauding the US government of tens of millions of dollars.
The court ordered Khan to serve 6 years and 4 months in prison, along with paying $56 million to the US government, and forfeiting assets worth $5 million.
According to prosecutors, Zakia Khan allegedly used her daycare center as a facade to obtain a large sum from the US government through fraudulent means, causing approximately $64 million in losses.
Khan was arrested in 2024 and pleaded guilty during the trial. The case was resolved at a federal court in New York yesterday, with the judge considering the severity of the crime and financial impact when determining the sentence.
As part of the court’s decision, Zakia Khan must repay $56 million to the US government and surrender $5 million worth of assets.
