BEIJING, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 27th Sep, 2026) Pakistan's cooking competitor, Mohid Mehboob, is making waves at the 48th WorldSkills Competition in Shanghai, China. This global event, renowned as the largest and most influential vocational skills competition, marks Pakistan's debut.

Mohid, a representative of the Pakistani team, highlights the team's participation in three categories: cooking, electrical installation, and graphic design. He attributes their success to six months of intense preparation, guided by German experts.

When asked about Pakistan's culinary representation, Mohid enthusiastically discusses garam masala, a spice blend akin to China's five-spice. He emphasizes its prevalence in Pakistani cuisine, adorning various dishes from karahi to biryani.

Challenges and Opportunities

Mohid acknowledges the difficulty of balancing national identity with international standards but finds solace in Pakistan's unique spices, offering a cultural touch. He marvels at China's cuisine and its bustling metropolis, Shanghai, praising its modern infrastructure and impressive cars.

As a student at the College of Tourism & Hotel Management (COTHM), Mohid expresses hope for enhanced collaboration between China and Pakistan in technical and vocational education and training (TVET). The recent signing of a China-Pakistan TVET initiative by Pakistan's Prime Minister's Youth Programme aims to train 50,000 Pakistani youth and develop 2,000 master trainers over five years.
