Panic Buttons and Cameras for Women's Safety in Lahore

LAHORE, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 6th Oct, 2026)

The Safe Cities Authority (PSCA) has initiated a significant safety measure by installing panic buttons and surveillance cameras on pedestrian bridges in Lahore, specifically targeting the well-being of women and students. This project is in line with directives from the Punjab chief minister.

In the initial phase, emergency panic buttons have been strategically placed on the overhead bridges of Lahore College for Women University and Kinnaird College. A subsequent phase will see installations on other vital pedestrian bridges across the city.

These panic buttons empower women and students to instantly connect with the Safe City control room in case of any harassment or emergency. Live surveillance through cameras allows the control room to swiftly assess situations and dispatch appropriate police assistance.

The PSCA emphasizes that this initiative, utilizing modern technology, will contribute to a safer environment for all citizens, especially women, by deterring harassment and ensuring prompt response to emergencies. Future phases will expand the Safe City system to encompass additional overhead bridges in Lahore.
