PESCO Installs ABC Cables in Peshawar, Charsadda, and Shabqadar

PESCO has initiated a significant project to enhance electricity supply and combat power theft. The company has installed Aerial Bundled Cable (ABC) on 18 high-loss feeders across Peshawar, Charsadda, and Shabqadar.

This initiative aims to disrupt the illegal Kunda system and improve overall power distribution. The specially insulated ABC cable features a thick, non-conductive outer covering, making unauthorized access to electricity much more challenging. This design significantly reduces the risk of power theft through traditional Kunda connections.

Installation work has been completed on:

  • Peshawar: Kachori, Opazai, Pir Bala, Safdar Abad, Palosai-2, and Naguman-2 feeders.
  • Charsadda: Utmanzai, Turangzai, Ziam, Umarzai, Dhakki, Bahlola, Sheikhabad, and Umerzai-1 feeders.
  • Shabqadar: Palwan Qilla Attaki, Palwan Qilla-2, Fatima Khel, and Matta Mughal Khail feeders.

PESCO is also in the process of installing ABC cables on another eight feeders, expected to be completed shortly. The company believes this system will not only deter electricity theft but also reduce overloading and minimize tripping on affected feeders.

Furthermore, the durable construction of the ABC cable makes it less susceptible to damage from rain and storms. PESCO Chief Akhtar Hamid Khan expressed optimism that reduced line losses would lead to an improved power supply situation and potentially decrease load shedding. He also indicated future plans to expand ABC cable installation to more feeders in areas with high power theft rates.
