Responding to a journalist’s question, Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi stated: "Do you know where petrol prices are heading in the world? Either we were taking this money and putting it in our own pockets, you would certainly question us." He added that petrol is currently unavailable in several countries.
LAHORE, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 21st Sep, 2026)
Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, commenting on the ongoing crisis and rising prices in the global crude oil market, expressed agreement with Petroleum Minister Ali Pervez Malik that petrol might not be available even at Rs1,000 per litre in the future under these circumstances.
During a conversation with media representatives in Lahore, he addressed a question about petroleum product prices in the country: "After the situation that has emerged globally regarding petroleum products and the supply chain, discussing petrol prices alone has become meaningless."
Petrol is not available at all in many countries at present. Despite these challenges, Naqvi praised the current government, particularly Federal Petroleum Minister Ali Pervez Malik, for ensuring uninterrupted petrol supplies in Pakistan.
He further stated that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is deeply concerned and distressed by the global market crisis and is making continuous efforts to ease the burden on the public regarding petroleum prices. The government and cabinet members are exploring alternatives and mechanisms to mitigate the worst effects of the global market crisis, aiming to provide maximum relief in petrol prices. However, Naqvi acknowledged that ensuring a continuous supply of petrol is the biggest challenge under these serious circumstances.
