Petroleum Prices Continue To Rise; Transporters Increase Fares

The 40-day deadline sought by the government will end next week, and transporters across Pakistan will be forced to launch another complete nationwide strike if the agreed commitments are not implemented, says the transporters’ alliance.
LAHORE, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 12th Sep, 2026) Following repeated increases in petroleum product prices, goods transporters have announced a further 5% increase in fares, raising concerns that the burden on inflation-hit people will grow further.
Addressing a press conference, All Pakistan Goods Transport Alliance President Malik Shehzad Awan said diesel prices had been increased by Rs20 per litre and petrol prices by Rs24 per litre over the past four days alone. He added that petroleum product prices had already risen by up to Rs23 per litre between August 20 and September 7.
Strongly criticising the government’s decisions, he said the daily adjustment of petroleum product prices was completely unacceptable. He stated that the petroleum minister had assured transporters during a nationwide strike in mid-August that prices would not be changed daily, following which the transporters had postponed their strike for 40 days.
Transporters said the 40-day period sought by the government would end next week, and warned that if the agreed arrangements were not implemented, transporters across Pakistan would once again be forced to launch a complete nationwide strike.
