Member of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly and Chairman District Development Advisory Committee (DEDC) Abbottabad, Iftikhar Ahmed Khan Jadoon has stated that safeguarding forests and promoting large-scale plantation are crucial for ensuring a sustainable future for generations to come.
He made these remarks while inaugurating a mega plantation campaign by planting a sapling at the Tehsil Municipal Office in Havelian on Defence Day. Officials from the Forest Department, including the Divisional Forest Officer and Range Officer, along with a significant number of local residents, attended the event.
Jadoon also distributed free saplings to citizens, encouraging them to actively participate in plantation initiatives and involve their children in tree-planting and conservation efforts.
According to him, trees play a pivotal role in sustaining human life, maintaining environmental equilibrium, and mitigating pollution. However, he emphasized that plantation alone is insufficient; newly planted saplings must be properly protected and nurtured to achieve long-term success.
The DEDC chairman highlighted the shared responsibility of both the government and the public in protecting forests and increasing forest cover. He noted that several plantation campaigns are conducted annually across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa under the Green Vision of the founding chairman, Imran Khan.
Jadoon expressed that a greener Khyber Pakhtunkhwa would contribute to reducing environmental pollution and strengthening efforts to combat the adverse effects of climate change. He appealed to the Forest Department and citizens to ensure regular care and protection of planted saplings, allowing them to grow into mature trees and become a valuable environmental asset for future generations.
