Playing Role in Ending Middle East Conflict: Asim Iftikhar

Pakistan is taking on additional responsibility under the Mecca Agreement and acknowledges that the situation is moving in a negative direction, says nominated Foreign Secretary Asim Iftikhar.
Speaking in New York, Asim Iftikhar Ahmed stated that Pakistan is actively contributing to ending the conflict in the Middle East, emphasizing efforts to achieve a peaceful resolution consistent with international and United Nations laws. He expressed Pakistan’s desire for a ceasefire, tension reduction, and party negotiations.
Iftikhar Ahmed highlighted the importance of the UN Security Council Charter, which advocates resolving conflicts through diplomacy rather than warfare. He noted that all three countries involved in the conflict are signatories to the Mecca Agreement, with Pakistan assuming additional responsibilities under it. The goal, he emphasized, is regional peace and stability.
With global attention on the Iran-US conflict, Pakistan stands out as a key player in its resolution. Iftikhar Ahmed urged for the conflicts in Palestine and Kashmir to be addressed according to Security Council resolutions, correcting the notion that the United Nations is inactive in promoting peace.
