PM Directs Financial Assistance For Families Affected By Floods

LAHORE, (APP – UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 22nd Aug, 2026) Prime Minister (PM) Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Saturday directed the provision of financial assistance to families affected by the recent rains and floods, including those who lost their lives and owners of damaged houses.

He chaired a meeting on the recent monsoon rains and their damage, where he instructed that:

  • Financial aid be provided to families of those who died in the floods.
  • Assistance be given to owners of houses that were partially or completely damaged.
  • Restoration of electricity transmission systems and roads in flood-affected areas be prioritized.
  • Relevant Federal ministers and secretaries visit affected areas, assess damage, and ensure immediate rehabilitation work.
  • Relief operations be accelerated, with food items and supplies delivered promptly to inaccessible areas.

The PM also directed the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) and provincial disaster management authorities to remain prepared for further rains and floods.

Meeting highlights:

  • Briefing on the 2026 monsoon impact and relief operations progress in provinces and NDMA.
  • Successful relocation of flood victims to safe locations.
  • Dispatch of 615 tonnes of relief supplies so far across the country, with more measures underway.
  • Rapid infrastructure rehabilitation in Punjab, Sindh, Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Azad Jammu & Kashmir.
  • Early warning systems operational in northern areas, leading to timely citizen evacuations before floods.

Federal Ministers Ahsan Iqbal, Ahad Khan Cheema, Shaza Fatima Khawaja, Moeen Wattoo, Dr Musadik Masood Malik, Sardar Awais Ahmad Khan Leghari, chief secretaries of four provinces, Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu & Kashmir, NDMA Chairman Lt. Gen. Inam Haider Malik, and senior officials from relevant departments attended the meeting.
