KARACHI, (APP – UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 10th Sep, 2026) Marking World Suicide Prevention Day, the Pakistan Medical Association (PMA) issued a call to action, urging the nation to adopt the global theme: "Changing the Narrative on Suicide."

The PMA underscored that preventing suicide requires a fundamental shift from silence, taboo, and societal stigma to open, empathetic dialogue, early mental health intervention, and structural policy reform. According to the press release issued here, the association emphasized that suicide is not a sign of personal weakness or a moral failing, but rather a major public health challenge that is entirely preventable. For too long, fear and societal stigma have silenced those in desperate need of help.

To change the outcome, we must change the narrative. We must foster an environment where asking for psychological support is treated with the same urgency and dignity as seeking treatment for physical illness.
