PML-N MNA Mahmood Bashir Work from Gujranwala Dies

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader and former Muridke municipal chairman Sheikh Shabbir Ahmed was killed in an assassination attempt.

LAHORE, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 12th Sep, 2026) Unknown assailants in a car opened fire near Muridke on the GT Road, killing PML-N local leader and former municipal chairman Sheikh Shabbir Ahmed. Meanwhile, PML-N Member of the National Assembly (MNA) from Gujranwala, Mahmood Bashir Work, also died after a prolonged illness.

According to police sources, Sheikh Shabbir Ahmed was traveling by car from his flour mill to his residence in Lahore. When he reached near Muridke on the GT Road, unidentified armed men lying in wait targeted his vehicle and opened indiscriminate fire.

Sheikh Shabbir Ahmed sustained critical injuries and died at the scene or while being shifted to hospital. The attackers fled easily after the shooting. Upon receiving information about the incident, a heavy contingent of police reached the site. Police immediately shifted the body to Tehsil Headquarters Hospital Muridke for a post-mortem examination and began collecting evidence.

Police said footage from CCTV cameras installed along the routes was being reviewed to identify and arrest the suspects. The horrific incident is initially being attributed to an old enmity; however, investigations have begun from all angles, and raids are being conducted to trace the killers.

Meanwhile, following the tragic killing of former Muridke municipal chairman Sheikh Shabbir Ahmed, PML-N MNA Mahmood Bashir Work from Gujranwala also died after a prolonged illness. His family confirmed that Mahmood Bashir Work had been suffering from cancer for a long time and was receiving treatment at a private hospital in Lahore. He could not survive and passed away. His funeral prayer was offered this morning in his native area, after which he was laid to rest in his ancestral cemetery.
