Police Claim to Follow Law, But Which Law Allows Firing From a Waistband? Senator Aimal Wali Khan

ANP central president Senator Aimal Wali Khan questioned the authority given to police to declare someone liable to be killed, stating that the same narrative is released every time a suspect is killed and suggesting that courts should be shut down under the current system.
ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 9th Sep, 2026) Central President of the Awami National Party (ANP), Senator Aimal Wali Khan, expressed these views during a meeting of the Senate Standing Committee on Human Rights regarding extrajudicial killings and fake police encounters.
He stated:
"Police claim to do everything according to the law, but asked: which law allows firing a pistol from a waistband? Who gave police the authority to declare someone liable to be killed? The same account is released every time after a suspect is killed."
According to an ANP statement, Senator Wali Khan highlighted concerns about the Counter Crime Department (CCD) and Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) activities. He alleged that:
"Police claim to act according to the law, but asked which law permits firing a pistol from a waistband."
He further questioned who had authorized police to determine liability for killing someone, reiterating his belief in the need for courts. He noted that:
“Where are the courts in all these matters?”
Wali Khan praised Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police while expressing dismay at collusion between police and courts at the grassroots level, stating this conduct is promoted and gains public sympathy. He demanded transparency from Punjab CTD and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa CTD regarding encounters over the past year, asserting that:
"These days, the biggest robber is a police officer, and that is why they have been made to kill petty robbers."
He emphasized widespread lawlessness across Pakistan, suggesting the system has reached a point where even the Supreme Court’s decisions are ignored.
Finally, Senator Wali Khan asked again:
"Which law openly permits police to kill someone with a pistol kept in a waistband?"
